Joining

Thank you for your interest in the Chicago Gay Hockey Association (CGHA). Your support has helped to make our organization better in everyway.

As the sole organization for gay and lesbian amateur hockey in Chicago, the CGHA hopes to develop a larger group that will incorporate more teams at different skill levels, run beginner courses to bring new players into the sport, host and run tournaments to bring together other teams from different cities and countries, and foster a social atmosphere and safe place for gay and non-gay athletes. The Chicago Gay Hockey Association currently fields several teams named the Red Liners. Each team plays in different Chicagoland adult hockey leagues and provides an environment within the hockey community that is open to all players and fans that is free from discrimination and prejudice.

We are always willing to work with new players. Hockey players are said to be a special breed, and you’ll find that is true of gay hockey players too. One of our goals is to host open skates and practices to help bring out new players as well as improve current players. For all new players, we encourage you to come out and watch our games, talk to us as well as join us on the ice. Official CGHA membership can be found here.

If you’re interested in taking additional skill courses, there are adult skating classes offered through the North Shore Ice Arena. Instructional hockey is offered through Johnny’s Ice House in the Loop. Before you can play you must make sure that you have all the necessary equipment.
