After a tough loss, the McFet Red Liners brought a core ten skaters to face an old rival, the Barons. They started off strong and never let up. Ninety seconds into the first period, Jesus AKA Bradley deked two defensemen and slid a cross ice pass to Stengy who one-timed it into the net. Minutes later, Jesus hit a wrister off Mixy’s pass and through a screen. The Barons returned fire just a minute later with a wrap around goal. But the Liners did not retreat. Mixy popped in a backhand shot over the goalie’s leg pad. The Barons did score a last minute goal to draw within 1 goal.
The Barons did crank up their offensive attacks in the second period. Dr. Nick made several pointblank saves to keep the score 3-2. Later, Queen Anne hit a blue line slapshot that rebounded to Mixy who’s wrist shot was blocked. This rebound ended at Fogey’s skates who easily wristed it past the sprawled goalie. Unfortunately, the opponents returned the scoring thirty seconds later. But Sobo would return that favor by hitting a slapshot from the blue line with B-hole screening.
The Liners had an easier time subduing the Barons in the third period. B-hole extended the Liners’ lead off a breakaway goal. The guys and gals in red did draw multiple penalties that lead to a 3 minute 5-3 penalty which the Barons took advantage and scored. As neither team scored in the final minutes, the game ended 6-4.
The Liners will only have a 48 hour break as they will meet up with the Polar Vortex before the long 4 day break for the Chicago Pride Classic tournament.
