As the Winter 2014-2015 regular season is winding its way down, all teams are jousting for favorable spots for the playoffs. The Johnny’s Red Liners were no different. They had to wait for their game and their rival’s, Uncle Puck, game to be completed to see if the seedings cleared up.
The scoring started out slow but ramped up as the game progressed. Mixy would score the first and eventual game winner half way through the first period. He smashed Jimmie’s one timer, cross slot pass just inside the near post. The second period had the guys in red crashing the Butchers’ net even more aggressively. Baby netted the insurance goal off a breakaway and beating the Butcher goalie by putting the puck into the upper corner of the net. McClain notched the third goal but popping the puck over the netminder after Twank and Jimmie’s passes.
The third period was just an exclamation point on the previous periods. Pauley’s quick wrist shot caught the Butchers’ goalie off guard and found the back of the net as Twank was providing a diversion. B-hole would close out the game with back-to-back goals. He willed the puck through the goalie during a scramble in the crease. His second goal was off an amazing backhand shot into the upper net that took everyone by surprise.
With the win, Bigfield earned his fourth shutout of the season. The Red Liners also pushed their point total to 34. Uncle Puck is in second place with 29 points and lost tonight. With only two games remaining for both teams, the Red Liners have secured first place in the North conference regardless of the outcomes of these upcoming games. They are also ahead in points for all other South conference teams.
