Red Liners End the Season in Third Place with a 7-3 Win against the Butchers Union.

As the Fall-Winter 2012-2013 season came to a close, the Red Liners tried to end their re-inaugural season on a high note as they faced off a frequent foe, the Butchers Union C3. Even fans from both teams were duking it out in the stands. With a skeleton crew and minor league substitutes needed because of injuries, the guys and gal in red answered the challenged and beat the Butchers, 7-3.

From the very

start, both teams were charging deep into the defensive zones and throwing pucks at their opponent’s goalie. It would be Castle who would notch the first goal off a blistering wrist shot. But the Meat Men would come back with a late goal of their own to tie the score at the end of the first period.

Castle would continue the scoring engine by getting back to back goals (earning the hat trick) with the help of his wingman, Rusty Mix on great breakaways. The Butchers continued to pound hard on Dr. Nick. Gees

and Justin did well with holding back most of the offensive pressure at the far blue line. The Butche would pull it within one goal off a laser shot from the blue line before Ty increased the lead back to two goals after shooting a loose pu

ck in the slot that trickled into the net.

The pesky Butchers tried to kick up their offensive up another gear and was rewarded with a goal in the early minutes of the third period. But Castle would come to the rescue and continue his scoring romp with another goal off an assistant from Queen Steph. Minutes later, wingers, Davy and Pauley, danced the puck around the Butchers’ net while Tyty got open and rebounded a pass into the net. With the game winding down, The Druck settled down into a more comfortable forechecking/backchecking rhythm against the Butchers. Jimmy almost snuck the puck past Littlefield, the Butchers’ goalie, as his rocket shot was initially blocked and plopped jump on the goalie line. Castle was rewarded the icing on the cake with his empty net goal with a second left in the game.

With that game, the Red Liners end this season at at very respectable 15-6-0, earning 30 points. They are just 1 loss from the top two seeds who are tied. Their record is better than any other team in the C3 North Division. Their is an obvious cutoff in the C3 South Division The top 6 teams have 13 or more wins. The bottom for have less than 9. Their first game will be against Ogilvy on March 9 at 1:30pm who they beat 5-4 in their only matchup.
