History

Since being formed in 2002 by Chuck Jacobson, the Chicago Gay Hockey Organization has gone through many ups and downs. But they have no doubt made their mark in the Chicagoland hockey world and beyond. They primarily participating in numerous recreational leagues and US and Canadian tournaments over the years. But they have also participated in other fundraiser games and scrimmages.

Success has also followed them on the ice. There have been multiple league championships or finalists:

  • Winter 2004 – Rolling Meadows Adult League – H2 Division Champions
  • Winter 2005 – Rolling Meadows Adult League – H2 Division Champions
  • Winter 2011 – North Shore Adult League – Finalist
  • Winter 2013 – Chicago Outdoor Hockey League – C Division Champions
  • Winter 2014 – Chicago Outdoor Hockey League – C Division Champions
  • Winter 2014 – Johnny’s Adult League – C3 Division Finalist
  • Winter 2014 – McFetridge Adult Recreational Hockey League – Champions
  • Winter 2015 – McFetridge Adult Recreational Hockey League – Finalist
  • Summer 2015 – Heartland Adult Recreational League – Champions
  • Winter 2016 – Johnny’s Adult League – North C2 Champions, C2 Division Finalist
  • Summer 2016 – Heartland Adult Recreational League – Finalist
  • Summer 2016 – McFetridge Adult Recreational Hockey League – Finalist

They have found success when participating in numerous gay hockey tournaments around the US and Canada:

  • Gay Games 7 – Chicago 2006 – Recreational – Bronze medal
  • Chelsea Challenge 2011 – Recreational – Champions

  • Vancouver Pride Classic 2013 – Champions
  • Gay Games 9 – Cleveland 2014 – Mens Advanced – Gold medal
  • Madison Tournament 2015 – Competitive and Recreations Champions
  • Chicago Pride Classic 2015 – Competitive Champions
  • Eastern Canada Cup 2015 – Recreational Finalist
  • Eastern Canada Cup 2016 – Recreational Finalist

The entire CGHA community hopes to continue growing in the coming years. Besides the upcoming Chicago Pride Classic tournament in 2015, they look forward to expanding their team presence in other hockey leagues in Chicago, engage in more volunteer work, and help promote a welcoming environment for all hockey players.
