The Fighting Hellfish were one of the storied teams of the C2 Division, partly for their logo and partly for their play. This season was no different as they met up with the Red Liners with a respectable 8-3-1 record. Both teams duked it out for the first two periods until the Fish collapsed to the withering offensive attack by the Liners. The guys in red would go on to a lopsided 9-4 victory.
In the first period, no one scored. That is the summary of the period. There were some scoring chances but Jimbo of the Liners easily walled off his net. On the other end, Godzilla of the Hellfish swatted and scooped up the pucks shot at him.
But the scoring picked up in the second period. Bradley would begin with a on-ice wrister just inside the far post. The Fish returned the favor with back-to-back goals off a midair swipe at a puck and weird bound near the net. Kaner Jr. tied up the score with a nice wrister off the post. Easy E would give the Liners the lead after firing a slapshot under a jumping & screening Toe. The Fish evened the score a mere 30 seconds later but Kaner Jr. would give the Liners the lead for good off a blistering top shelf wrister that the Fish goalie didn’t even flinch at.
Hoping to carry the momentum, the Liners pressured the Fish even harder and were rewarded with an avalanche of goals. Insane McClain beat the Fish netminder with a one-handed wraparound goal. Kaner Jr. would complete the hattrick with putting his own rebound past the sprawled goalie a mere 50 seconds later. Toe would launch a killer slapper a minute later that hit the goalie’s leg pad but still deflected into the net. Donna Martin slammed in a rebound by the net to push the goal lead to 5. Easy E would cap the scoring with an empty netter off a beautiful cross slot pass, pushing the goal lead to 6. However, the Fish did have a last second flukey goal off a wrist shot that bounced past Jimbo after hitting a helmet cage guard on the ice.
After a lopsided loss last week against Loftus Law, the Red Liner rebounded decisively against a strong team. They methodically ground at the Hellfish and eventually broke them down. With the win, the Liners remain in first place in the entire C2 division. They hope to continue their winning ways as they face the Moose who have the opposite record (2-10-1-0) on July 13.
