After the tough loss last week against the Ice Hawks, the Heartland Red Liners vowed to regroup and fortify all aspect of their game. Several players were called up to the AHL that left gaps for upper management to fill. These called up players complemented the team well. The lead would go back and forth but culminate on an unlikely OT win for the Liners.
The first period had strong offensive pressure by the Liners would had trouble finishing rebounds. But Bleech fired a slapper from the point that eventually went just past the Yeti goalie. The officials were unclear if it deflected off Sammy’s blade. But the Yeti would tie up the score late in the first period against a tired group of Liners on a long shift.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period. The Liners did successfully kill a power play to keep the score tied. The Yeti would pull ahead early in the third period with a wraparound goal that just beat Rocket, the Liners’ goalie. But MK would tie it up half way in the period by popping in a rebound off Squeaky’s pass at the net.
The game would end in regulation with a 2-2 tie. A five minute running OT commenced. Neither team could muster much of a scoring chance. In the final ninety seconds of the game, Bleech wristed a slow clearing pass toward the opposite far circle. The Yeti goalie and Sammy both skated quickly at it. Sammy just beat the netminder to the puck and fired it into the empty net for the game winner.
With the win, the Liners go back on the winning side with a 3-2-0 record and a GF-GA of 14-14. All of this has lead to their best season so far. They await their next matchup against the Blades of Steel on May 10th at 8:40pm.
