In previous matchups, the Polar Vortex was one of the weaker team. The Heartland Red Liners tried to carry their momentum from their previous win into their first matchup of the Polar Vortex for the summer season. Both teams upgraded their lineups from the past season And it showed from the very start. Neither team made headway on the scoreboard in the first period with Liners having more shots on goal than the Vortex. In the second period, both teams broke through. The Vortex would score back to back goals by the same player half way through the period. The Liners would come back with Sam I Am getting the teams first goal of the game unassisted. Keys McCarlson would notch his first goal ever off as assist from Jake. But that would be all the scoring. Both team would go null for the third period and OT. With the tie, the Liners remain in second place in the Western Conference, one point behind Jokerit. Their next matchup will be against an old rival, the Whalers, on Monday, Aug 18 at 10:30pm.
