Weekend afternoon games are usually a crapshoot when it comes to available players. In summer seasons, benches are usually lighter on players. The Rats C3 followed this trend with their 9 skaters. The Red Liners, however, laced up a full 15 players. With this added manpower and going against the Rats’ backup goalie, the Liners were relentless with shots, rebounds, and deflections that resulted in a lopsided 13-0 win.
With this many goals, documenting and recording the many goals was difficult for the scorekeeper and referees. The Druck did start out the scoring around the 4 minute mark after skating in alone at the Rats’ netminder and found an opening by the far post. Six more goals were scored in that period. At press time, Senor Cabeza, Dirky, Twank, Baby, Dr. Watson, and B-hole had also scored. Baby would score the only second period goal which was off the only power play in the game. Five more pucks found the back of the Rats’ net in the third period. There was more scoring by Twank, Baby, B-hole, and Toe. Of note, the game clock was left running during stoppages. In effect, the period only lasted 10-12 minutes, instead of 15.
With the win, the Red Liners remain matched with the Pirates. Both teams are have 23 points but the Pirates did beat the Red Liners. The guys and gal in red also tied their record for the most goals scored in a game (also scored 13 goals in against Uncle Puck in June 2013). They also beat their record for their best shutout score (previously was 11-0 against the Screaming Zambonies last winter). Bigfield also had his biggest shutout at Johnny’s. This shutout also has the Red Liners claiming two of the top four biggest shutouts in C3 division history (since winter 2009). Their next game (Tues, July 12 at 11:10pm) will be with a familiar foe, the Irish Clowns, who they last met in the physically taxing game in the first round of last season’s playoffs.
