Coming off a tough loss against the Top Shelf, the McFet 95th Red Liners confronted with Watchmen Hockey who already faced off with the McFet Howard Red Liners. A full squad eventually skated in the late game and was victorious, 5-3, which earned the Liners their second win in three games.
Much of the first period had the the forwards and defensemen getting sync’d as new line combos were used. Twank broke this calm by scoring the game’s first goal with a backhand goal off a breakaway. But the Watchmen would tie up the game on a last second shot after the Liners had trouble clearing the puck before the period expired.
Early in the second period, the opponents would use that momentum in an ensuing power play to get the go ahead goal. But the Liners refused to get down. In fact, Droo would bang in back to back goals off iBerg’s and MK’s rebounds by the Watchmen goalie. Unfortunately, the lead was not safe. In the closing minutes of the second period, the Watchmen would slip a slot pass just inside the far post.
With the score tied, the Liners turned up the pressure as they sense a win. They tried to fire more shots at the Watchmen net especially from the defense. Twank would score the eventual game winner on another breakaway. McClain, the Cowboy, notched an insurance goal after scoring off of Franco’s rebound.
The late night matches remain a difficult game for both sides because of attendance issues and fatigue. These same issues will be seen in their next game against the Black Sheep (Thursday, June 26 at 11pm).
