With half of the Red Liners celebrating Mother’s Day, the lineup was a bit thin. But warm thoughts for their mothers was not lost as several skates retaped their stick blades and wrote “ Mom” on them. The happy gesture would carry them to an eventual victory against the short-benched Bullfrogs.
Toto would be the lone goal scorer for the Red Liners. His first goal was at the five minute mark of the first period with a blistering slapshot into the upper net. But the Frogs could not capitalize on a power play but did tie it up in the closing minutes of the period off a rebound that slipped just behind Bigfield, the Liners’ netminder.
The Frogs would then take the lead early in the second period with the only goal of that period. The guys in red regrouped and multiple good scoring changes. But they got thwarted in their first power play as Easy E got called for delay of game after kicking a loose puck at the Frog’s goalie. The Liners were docked with another penalty causing the Frog to have a 25 second 5-3 which they could not score.
But the Liners fortunes changed about half way through the third period as Toto would notch back to back goals in a 90 second period off assists from The Druck and Mixy. Fatigue was setting in on both sides throughout this period. After successfully killing a powerplay in the final minute of the game, the Red Liners skated off the ice with the 3-2 victory.
These Red Liners remain undefeated, are in first place in their conference, and tied for first in the division with the Fireballs who will play their first five games against the bottom five teams in their conference. The Liners have their first five games against the bottom seven teams in their conference. The next game is against one of their perennial rivals, the Centurions on Friday, May 16th at 11pm (JIH East).
