With the ice cold wins blowing outside the rink, the environment inside the rink was more inviting. Unfortunately, this did not carry on to a win for the Red Liners. Things did not start out good with an early goal by the Islanders in the first period. But the Liners’ goaltender & resident conductor stood on his head and flopped around to make multiple key saves to keep the Liners only down 1 goal. The second period was similar to the first period. The Liners continued to remain scoreless though a shot on goal bounced off the near goal post. In their first powerplay of the game, the Liners failed to capitalize. Rocket was called for his first penalty of the season for tripping where the Geese notched their second goal. The excitement grew in the third period with Les’s bouncing wrist shot made it through into the net but the Goose netminder gloved the puck and slowly pulled it back out before the refs could see it. After a short discussion, they ruled no goal on the play. The Geese would get two more goals as the guys and gal in red had trouble clearing pucks out of the zone while bunching up in the slot. Scoring changes later in the period were minimized as the D seemed to not be in sync with the offense as pucks were not cleared out successfully to the forwards. While the game was no doubt winnable, it was another tough lesson on crashing the net harder and having forwards and D work better to break out. The game puck, no doubt, goes to Mr. C, the Red Liners goaltender. They hope to get back into the win column at their next game, Jan 29th at 11pm against the Northside Riffs.
