The American Heartland Red Liners fought hard against the top seeded Blades of Steel in their second matchup. With a 14-player bench, the Liners skated a better game than in their first matchup (a 5-2 loss). The Blades scored one goal in the first and second periods, and two goals in the third period. The Liners did have several breakaway chances and shots on goal from the offensive circles. The play of the game was likely Mikey T’s puck clearing just in front of the empty Liners’ net in the second period. This was in addition to other key puck clearing moves by the defense throughout the game. The 4-0 loss was one less goal given up compared to the previous match. However, the offense couldn’t get the puck past the tough Blades goalie. The team will be working on better positioning for breakouts and when attacking their opponents’ goal.
