As the CGHA basks in its recent thrust into the world of Internet viral videos, they had a hockey game. Remember, they are a hockey team who also happens to sing and dance. Tonight they had their first meeting with Goose Island, a previous Chicago-based microbrewery. Running on energy from their new stardom, the Red Liners can out charging. After a single stumble, they regained the offensive pressure and eventually claimed victory over Goose Island, 6-2.
The first goal of the game went to Sobo off a blistering one-timer from the slot. B-hole spied the wide open D-men-playing-forward and slid a perfect saucer pass. The Geese would tie it up as they poked in a loose puck from the slot. Andy Andy had several great scoring chances on one shift but was stymied by the Geese netminder.
The second period was all Red Liners. Toto would pop a goal early in the period as he skated through multiple Islanders, deked the goalie and slipped the puck just inside the far post. The third (and eventual game winning) goal began with Dirko’s sharp angled wrist shot that bounced by the far post. B-hole would pop in the puck between the Island’s netminder’s pad and the post. The D help their own as well. The Red Liners’ goalie, the Music Man, make several key saves to keep the goals against down to one. Unfortunately, Super Liz had to sit out a shift because a puck to her previously injured foot and toe.
The third period was again mostly a Red Liners affair. Dirko would again be on the plus side with his unassisted rapid wrist shot that hit either the goalie’s water bottle or back post. Soon afterwards, Goose Island came back to within two goals after scoring their second and final goal. The Red Liners just went into a higher gear of scoring to finally close out of the game. On a 3-1 against the Island goalie, a skating far side Toto fired a perfect saucer pass across to Bleech who tipped it just inside the near post. Twank would get another insurance and sixth goal on a break away with his wrist shot into the upper net. Kryan did sacrifice his ankle and foot by blocking an opponent’s slapshot. He did manage to finish the game luckily.
The McFetridge Red Liners were happy to get back into the win column after last week’s loss. They’re next game will be a rematch against the Mighty Merkins at 11pm on Thursday, Dec 12th.
