The Red Liners, no doubt, thought themselves as swingers as they donned their spiffy new jerseys 3 games ago. But after the loss tonight against Uncle Puck, they’ve had alternating wins and losses for the last 4 games. This is definitely not the swinging that they were hoping for.
Scoring got off quickly as Doc screened the goal as Mixy took a shot from the left circle. He wrapped the rebounded puck around the Uncle Puck netminder to give the Red Liners the game’s first goal. But Uncle Puck would tie is up with a powerplay goal. Doc deflected a shot from the right point which bounced passed a screened Red Liners’ netminder, Dr. Nick. The first period would end with the Red Liners successfully killing off a penalty from a hooking-causing Sobo.
The scoring would continue
to go back and forth for the second period. The Red Liners took the lead back early in the period with a powerplay goal from the Scuba Joe and Don Juan line. But Uncle Puck grabbed the lead back with 2 unanswered goals. The period would end with the Red Liners tying the score. Stock blocked a clear passing from the Uncle Puck defense and passed it to Toto who found an unguarded Baby, just wide of the net. His pass to Baby was then fired into the empty net.
The game winning goal for Uncle Puck would be off a stolen puck and passed Dr. Nick before he had chance to setup. Uncle Puck would add an insurance goal just 4 minutes later but then seemed to be running out of steam. The Red Liners had trouble organizing sustained pressure for the rest of the period. Even after pulling their goalie, the guys and gal in Red could not get another goal. Teddy missed a great chance with a wide open net but fired the shot over the crossbar.
With 8 defensemen and only 6 forwards, finding the proper combinations was difficult. At times, the positioning by the Red Liners seemed a bit confused as defensemen-turned wingers would end up bupropion from turkey playing defense near the Red Liners netminder. Other defensemen would rush the net but other wingers were not sure who would be falling back to play defense.
But the team spirit and sportsmanship was good as they took the loss in stride. The Red Liners understand they were beaten by a better team who happened to have a small bench. They will look to regroup against the higher ranked, Ogilvy on Saturday, July 14.
