The Blackwolves mixed up their lines and played some of their best hockey to date in this game against the high-level LA Blades team, holding them scoreless in the opening period, and then keeping it tied until 3 minutes left in the second.
With reconfigured lines, the Blackwolves stood up to and even put pressure on the Blades, and held the first period to a 0-0 tie. LA notched their first goal in the second, but the Blackwolves finally broke the scoreless drought to even it up. On a face-off to the left of the Blades’ goalie, Sikes draw brought the puck back to Merlot, who got a shot on net; Rogers picked up the rebound and just caught the corner to trickle the puck into the net. Unfortunately, there was a Blackwolves breakdown soon after and the Blades scored again.
Blackwolves entered the third period only down by a goal but LA notched another, to put the game at 3-1.
The closing minutes saw the Blackwolves try to score by pulling the outstanding Halverson and getting the sixth attacker on the ice. Several chances were created but the Blackwolves couldn’t capitalize, and the game finished 3-1 for the Blades.
Late in the third, Quigly reirritated an old injury and remained on the bench for the remaining minutes.
