Ryan Kennedy scored the natural hat-trick Nov. 18 at the Nelson Sports Complex in Rolling Meadows to lead the CGHA Black Wolves to a 6-0 win over the Benders.
The Black Wolves move to 2-1, as Kennedy scored three goals in the third period after the club managed a 1-0 lead after the first and a 2-0 edge after two periods.
Kennedy scored at 13:06 of the third period, then tallied again less than a minute later on an assist from Larry Zyks. His final goal came with 8:50 remaining.
Pat Mazzone closed the scoring with 3:20 to play, converting on a wristshot from the right side off a pass from Rusty Fleury.
Steve Ness scored the game-winning goal at 3:31 of the first period on an assist from—believe it or not—goalie Keith Halverson.
Billy Reay gave the Black Wolves a 2-0 edge at 2:31 of the second period, slapping home the rebound of a Fleury shot.
Reay anchored the Black Wolves’ stringent defense and was award the Game Puck. Halverson stopped 23 shots.
The Black Wolves’ next game is Dec. 3 in Hoffman Estates against Thin Ice. Gametime is 10:10 p.m.
In other news, Andy Rogers has been named the CGHA’s Interim President. He replaces Chuck Jacobson, who resigned to pursue other activities within the sporting world. Jacobson, the CGHA founder, will still play for the team. The new permanent team president will be named in January.
