The CGHA team returned to its winning way Saturday Jan. 17 at the Glenview Ice Center, defeating the Drillers 6-1. The team improved to 5-3 and has now won five of its last six. Goalie John Adams anchored the win, stopping about 20 shots en route to his first CGHA victory and the game-puck. The Drillers lone goal slipped past Adams with 3:29 remaining, long after the game was out of reach.
Ryan Ruskin tallied his first goal of the season at 4:48 of the first period on assists from linemates Michael Ko and Larry Zyks. Shane Thompson scored what proved to be the game-winner at 10:40 of the second period. Thompson’s first goal of the season came off a pass from Rusty Fleury.
Defenseman Greg Bates gave the CGHA team a 3-0 lead at 7:59 of the second with an unassisted tally, his first goal of the season. Chuck Jacobson got in on the scoring about three minutes later off a pass from Fleury, while Ko scored 14 seconds after Jacobson’s goal. Zyks rounded out the scoring with a goal at 4:51 of the third period.
The CGHA team returns to action next Saturday against Thin Ice. Game time is 10:35 p.m., at the Nelson Sports Complex in Rolling Meadows.
