It was all smiles Saturday Dec. 13 on the CGHA bench as the team led from start to finish, defeating “Misfits 2,” 3-1.
The CGHA team improves to 2-2 with two games remaining in 2003. Team captain Larry Zyks gave the CGHA team a 1-0 edge with an unassisted tally less than three minutes into the game. He scored again at 2:13 of the second period on assists from Mike Kelly and Andy Rogers.
Defenseman Brian Merlot scored what proved to be the game-winner at 6:17 of the first period on an assist from Rogers. The CGHA team took a 2-1 lead into the second period as the Misfits 2 scored with :13 remaining in the first. Defenseman Shane Thompson, playing for the first time after a three-game suspension, returned with a solid defensive effort.
Forward Austin Baidas made his CGHA debut, playing on the line with fellow winger Rogers. Wingers Rex Babiera and Michael Ko were strong, both creating several scoring chances. The CGHA team returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 17 against Morning Wood, starting at 10:55 p.m. in Glenview. The team’s final game of 2003 is Monday, Dec. 22, against Demons, starting 10:55 p.m. at the West Meadows rink in Rolling Meadows.
