The CGHA hockey team wrapped up its pre-season schedule Nov. 8th at the Nelson Sports Complex in Rolling Meadows – and now awaits the 16-game regular season, which runs through next April.
The team’s first regular-season game is this Thursday, Nov. 13, starting at 10:55 p.m. at the Nelson Sports Complex against the Drunk Penguins. This is SPIN’s first season playing at Rolling Meadows and the team is the only gay team in the city.
Chuck Jacobson struck early for the CGHA this past Saturday, scoring twice within the first five minutes of the game against the Barnstormers. Defenseman Shane Thompson assisted Jacobson’s first goal as SPIN built a 2-0 lead Jacobson now leads the team with three goals. The Barnstormers ultimately triumphed, closing SPIN’s exhibition schedule on a losing note despite solid offensive efforts from Larry Zyks and Ryan Ruskin, among others. SPIN’s defense against the Barnstormers was aided by Andy Rogers, who dropped back after Thompson was ejected in the first period for fighting. SPIN’s defense should be in good shape this week against the Drunk Penguins with the return of Brian Merlot, who has missed the last couple of games.
