Summer Season Ends for Johnny’s Red Liners In Tough 10-4 Loss Against HawkAuto.com in Quarterfinals. Reboot Set for September.

When the Johnny’s Red Liners began this season in April 2015, the one unknown was on the wall: How would a C3 team that did not win a championship perform in C2? Four months later, the answer is quite apparent. They did not do too bad. But they still have a lot to work on.

Summer session in adult recreational hockey leagues are always a crapshoot when it comes to rosters. A host of players always seem to have many conflicting events that they are not able to contribute to the season. The Red Liners roared out of the gate as they took advantage of the unpredictable team attendance of their opponents and matched it up with consistent offensive attack and solid defense. They racked up an 8-1 record and eventually settled down with a 16-2-0-1 final record, the best in the entire C2 division. This seemed to mimic their Winter C3 season.

But their winning momentum hit Hawkauto.com who was always a tough team regardless of their record. And playoff hockey can bring out the best and worst in teams. In this quarterfinal matchup, the strategy was simple: watch out for their quick forecheck. The guys in red did this. Unfortunately, they had little sustained offense for most of the game. Hawkauto.com used their quick skaters to catch the Liners on the defensive. In the end, the Liners managed only 4 goals and the ending of their inaugural C2 season.

It was a disappointing end after another remarkable regular season. People play to win. But people also play to have fun and to have camaraderie. The ultimate win still eludes them. But no one can deny that there were lighthearted moments on and off the ice. Every season has changes. This upcoming Fall/Winter 2015-2016 will be no exception. The Liners hope to come back better and stronger next time. Thanks to all who showed their support for the Johnny’s Red Liners and CGHA in person and in spirit.
