McFet Howard Red Liners Castaways Goose Islanders in 6-3 Win.

McFet Howard Red Liners clashed with a short benched Goose Island for a late night matchup. The contest looked lopsided based upon bench sized. Because some of the guys in red were tired after playing in an earlier game, the teams remained even through the first two period. But exhaustion kicked in for Goose Island in the third period. The Liners took advantage and grab the easy win.

The first period had Goose Island evenly matched with the Liners. Neither had sustained offensive pressure. Baby did draw a penalty with a minute left in the period. Unfortunately, the Liners could not capitalize on it.

The second period continued with anemic offense but B-hole would break through by smashing in a rebound through the five hole. Soon afterwards, Roger Dodger scored a wrap around goal. With the Geese looking even slower, they pulled within a goal off a deflected slapshot from the point. This sparked their players to score minutes later with a backhand shot into the upper net. At the buzzer, the teams were tied at 2-2.

The third period started out with back to back power plays for the Liners. They would finally score on there third attempt off Chucky’s wrap around wrist shot just inside the far post. But the Islanders took advantage of a blue line turnover and scored on a breakaway. B-hole returned the favor by scoring on a breakaway of his own, just inside the near post. Penalties began to accumulate on both teams. Unfortunately, the short bench on the Goose Island side did result in an odd 4-on-4 matchup. Offsetting penalties were called late in the period which would normally keep the Islanders at 5 players. Since they did not have any extra players, they had to play a man down. While taking advantage of the strained Island defense, Don Juan increased the lead after popping in Bachman’s rebound into the upper net. Baby would seal the deal with a last minute goal off a loose puck in the final minute off another power play.

In another fortuitous situation, the especially tired Red Liners matched up with a short benched Goose Island that would also succumb to fatigue. But the Liners would come out on top after multiple players scored on the Island net. The hope to carry on their winning streak into three games in their next game against the Polar Vortex, Monday, April 28 at 10:50pm.
