McFet Red Liners Razz the Northside Riffs in 5-1 Trouncing. Dirky Gets the Hat Trick.

The games against the Riffs are usually an even affair. After the tough loss from the past game, the Liners wanted to give a much better effort and make up for that loss. Things starte slow but the Liners eventually got their scoring machine going especially with the help of Dirky. The outcome was then inevitable.

Most of the first period had each team feeling out their opponent. Neither team could sustain any large offensive threats. That would all change in the final minutes of the period as the Liners notched the first goal of the game. B-hole grabbed a loose puck in the far corner and slid it Kryan in the low slot. He fired it at the Riffs’ netminder but the rebound ended up with Dirky by the near post who easily popped it into the upper net.

The Riffs would tie up the score early in the second period with their only goal of the game. From that point on, it was all Red Liners. Halfway through the period, Dirky would get the Liners’ second goal. He picked up a cross ice neutral zone pass from B-hole and skated wide of the Riffs’ net before cutting across the slot. His backhand shot was partially blocked but still managed to dribble in just before B-hole crashed into the net. Only 2 1/2 minutes later, B-hole would finally be awarded with a goal. On the powerplay, AJ lasered a slapshot at the Riffs’ goal which was deflected behind the net. Kryan picked up the puck and tossed it behind the net where B-hole then tried to slam it just inside the far post. He eventually popped it over the goalie’s pad. To cap off this scoring frenzy, Dirky would get his hattrick on a powerplay after picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone, skating it wide of the Riffs’ netminder, freezing him, and then lifting it upstairs on the short side.

The scoring continued into the third period. For the fourth tally, Davey E found a puck in the middle slot and shotgunned a wrist shot into the upper part of the Riff net. The final icing goal would be off a tough effort by Kryan. The fought with the Riffs for control of the puck behind their net. After getting the puck loose, he slid an across-the-body shot just under the goalie pads.

The scoring along with the great saves by Professor Yung and his quartet of defensemen preserved the goal difference. He hopes for an encore at their next game against the Mighty Mirkins on Feb 3 at 10:50pm. The rambunctious crowd of Liner fans tonight would no doubt like another win too.
