North Shore Red Liners End Season With 5-1, Second Round Loss to Charros

After a thrilling win against the Meatheads last week, the NS Red Liners hoped to continue their momentum against the 3rd seeded Charros. Unfortunately, the guys in red ran into a hot goalie who blocked almost every shot on goal. Their one goal was less than the five scored by their opponents.

The first period was a tie/no score affair as neither team could sustain any offensive pressure. The second period was all Charros unfortunately. Though the Liners who have several power play attempts including a 5-3, the Charros’ goalie stymied their scoring attempts and left them empty. B-hole expertly poke checked an opponent, grab the loose puck, skating in alone, and just missed a scoring chance. On the other hand, the Liners would allow 4 even strength goals. The Liners’ third period strategy was to just score one goal. Toto had a breakaway shot that rang off the post. The Charros would notch one more goal in the period after the Liners had trouble clearing the puck from their defensive zone. The Liners had several more power play chances but couldn’t convert until the closing seconds of the period. Don Juan floated a puck to Teddy near the goal crease but the puck drifted through the slot. MK slammed it just inside the near post for the only Liners’ goal of the game.

With the loss, the Red Liners playoff season is over, finishing 4th out of 7. They will move onto a different rink, the Northbrook Sports Center, where they hope the competition will be closer to their level as well as a more stable organizational team. Their first game is Tuesday, June 4 at 8:10pm against Shermer Bulldogs.
