Red Liners Get Spurned by Uncle Puck in 8-5 loss.

Red Liners Get Spurned by Uncle Puck in 8-5 loss.

The Johnny’s Red Liners began their toughest stretch of games for the season as they faced the top viagra seeded teams of the C3 North Division for three games in the road. First up was Uncle Puck in a back-and-forth game that eventually had the Pucks coming out ahead.

The first period started out fast for both teams as players were sprint up and down the ice on breakaways and backchecking. Uncle Puck would get on board first with 2 unanswered goals off two rocket-like slapshots from the top of the defensive circles. Tyty would get the Liners’ first goal off a rebound from Pauly’s shot on net. Tyty fired a hard wrist shot with Doc screening the Puck goalie. The netminder did stop the shot but the puck trickled just past the goal line.

Seeing this was going to be a tougher match than previous games, Captain Toto urged everyone to push even harder and try to score more goals in the second period. Initially, thinks looked great for the Liners. Within the first 30 seconds, B-hole would tie up the game when he pucked up a loose rebound off Toto’s shot on goal. B-hole shot a beautiful wrister just above the Puck goalie’s glove. Seconds later, Teddy would deflect a Queen Steph’s wristshot from the circle into Uncle Puck’s net. But the

Red Liners lead was short lived. Within seconds, Uncle Puck tied it up off another high circle shot into the upper part of the Liner’s goal. The opponents in white woud grab back the lead with similar shot a few minutes later. Teddy tried to stop Uncle Pucks momentum with a quick shot just inside the far post off a cross-slot pass from Toto. Unfortunately, the Puck would come charging back with two more goals before the period was over.

The Red Liners were now two goals behind after two periods. The climb up would now be even harder. As an example of their fortitude, the forwards lines tried to crash the Uncle Puck defense over and over. Toto would bring the Liners within one goal by slipping in the puck just inside the far post off a rebound from the Druck’s shot on goal. The Liners had a golden opportunity to tie the game up with two power plays. The first one had jumbled lines and trouble was breaking into the offensive zone. The second one with about 5 minutes left to play had better offensive chances. Unfortunately, Uncle Puck managed a shorthanded breakaway past the Liner’s blue line. Like before, a Puck player fired another high slapshot that slipped inside the upper part of the Liner’s net. Now being done two goals again, the Liners became more aggressive and desperate. With less than two minutes to play, Dr. Nick was pulled from the net. But it would be Uncle Puck that would score a goal on a 2-on-1 with Teddy trying to play

defense.

The loss against Uncle Puck was a tough one as the Liners were on a three-game winning streak. The guys and gal in red were scoring enough goals but the Puck had constant killer slapshots that they fired just past the blue line. This was something the Liners were not used to seeing. The Warriors are the Liners’ next opponent. With a substantial portion of the regular roster away for the holiday weekend, the Liners will have to be creative with their lines against this tough team.
