CGHA Wraps Regular Season With .500 Record

The CGHA team wrapped up the regular season March 22nd with one of its best performances of the season, but came up on the short end, losing 2-1 to Thin Ice.

Defenseman Mike Kelly gave the CGHA a 1-0 edge with 2:00 remaining in the second period, scoring from the left-side into the lower right corner on a pass from Shane Thompson. CGHA goalie Keith Halverson turned in another sensational performance, stopping about 30 Thin Ice shots.

Thin Ice finished in second place in the nine-team league and defeated the CGHA 6-1 earlier in the season. In the season finale, Thin Ice needed two late third period tallies to defeat the CGHA as the club prepped for the playoffs.

Ah, yes, the playoffs. The CGHA finished in fifth place with an 8-8 record, out-scoring its opponents 55-42. CGHA faces the Drillers (9-6), which finished in fourth-place, this Thursday, April 1, starting at 10:40 p.m., at the West Meadows Ice Rink in Rolling Meadows.

A win over the Drillers will put the CGHA into the semifinals and a probable match against the first place team, Morning Wood, which finished 14-1. That one Morning Wood loss was at the hands of – you got it – the CGHA.

The championship game is April 6, starting at 10:25 p.m., at West Meadows.
