Dec 2: Spin 2, Arlington 0

The CGHA team scored early and often Tuesday night at the West Meadows Ice Rink en route to the team’s first win of the season: an 8-0 victory over Arlington.

CGHA president Chuck Jacobson scored the first of his two goals for the night less than two minutes into the first period as the club built a 4-0 first period lead. Jacobson scored what proved to be the game-winner off a pass from Rusty Fleury. Jacobson also scored an unassisted goal at 1:47 of the first period, to go with his first two assists of the season.

Team captain Larry Zyks also got into the scoring action, with a pair of goals and an assist. Fleury, playing center for the first time, earned the game’s playmaker award. He recorded a team-high three assists and also chipped one past the Arlington keeper for the team’s eighth goal at 11:08 of the third period.

Terry McDonnell extended his scoring streak to two games, thanks to a first period tally off a pass from Fleury. Laura Moss also got into the scoring action, converting a second period shot.

Goalie Keith Halverson stopped about 20 shots, earning the second shutout in team history, and his aggressive play away from the goal led to several scoring chances for the CGHA club.

The CGHA team (1-2) returns to action next Saturday, Dec. 13, against MisFits 2, starting at 10:50 p.m., at the West Meadows Ice Rink in Rolling Meadows. The CGHA team also plays Wednesday, Dec. 17, against Morning Wood, starting at 10:55 p.m., in Glenview.
