May 12: Spin 3, Storm 1

Chuck Jacobson came off the disabled list and scored two goals as the Chicago Spin improved to 7-6 by beating the Storm late Monday night at the Glacier. The Storm took a 1-0 lead in the first period, but it was to be their only goal of the game. Jacobson’s first goal, assisted by Adam Fianshaw, tied the game later in the first period. In the second period, it was Jacobson again beating the Storm goaltender through the five hole on a power play goal with Joe Nowak passing the puck right on the doorstep. Spin later got an insurance goal from Nowak again in the middle of the third period, making what would be the final score: Spin winning 3-1.

This was a well-played game by everyone including Cory Watrous filling in at goaltender. Watrous played as well as he has all year long with the Spin club. As usual, the defense played an excellent job. Shane Thompson who has been snake-bitten lately had a lof of good opportunities, but just missed the net on a couple of chances. Mike Kelly was back on defense as well, and he played a solid game. Larry Zyks was the hero when his car broke down and left his car on the side of the road and took a cab to the game. Zyks showed a lot of commitment by doing such a brave thing. The Chicago Spin have displayed a lot of character throughout this second half by being unselfish and sacrificing for the team.
